HNAF (HotNewAlbumFridays): Far Caspian - ‘Last Remaining Light’
8/10 Rating - Great Album Far Caspian’s new album The Last Remaining Light is an ethereal, expansive and cosmic listening experience that will certainly be on repeat for most listeners. Far Caspian created the whole album himself and played all instruments. He craftfully approaches the work with precision and care, fine-tuning every instrument on the album. His catchy and melodic songs are sure to please you. Check out “Pet Architect” below and let us know your thoughts: Read More: Far Caspian today released his impressive new album The Last Remaining Light via his own Tiny Library Records; stream or purchase it here. The LP and its singles ("Arbitrary Task," "Own," "The Last Remaining Light," and "Pet Architect") arrived to early acclaim via Pitchfork, Bandcamp (New & Notable), Billboard (Cool New Pop Songs), Consequence (Top Songs), Brooklyn Vegan, FLOOD, Treblezine, Northern Transmissions, and more. Far Caspian will embark on a U.S. headlining tour this fall, including shows at his biggest NYC & LA venues to date: Le Poisson Rouge on November 10th and Teragram Ballroom on November 18th. The performances follow his SXSW and Primavera Sound Barcelona festival debuts this year. See below for a full itinerary of upcoming dates. Far Caspian is the project of Leeds, UK-based Irish musician Joel Johnston, and the music he creates is anchored by his dogged attention to detail—he writes, performs, records, and mixes everything himself. As such, Far Caspian’s music consistently feels like its own self-contained world, full of densely packed hooks and guitar-based atmospherics. With The Last Remaining Light, he’s made his most cohesive and compelling work yet. The album is the result of Johnston streamlining his approach in the studio, finding inspiration in peeling back his tracks’ layers in a way that’s both rewarding and immediate in its simplicity. Work on The Last Remaining Light began right after Johnston turned in mixes for his 2021 debut LP Ways To Get Out. Whereas that previous album was the result of almost two years of tinkering and finding his sound, Johnston decided to set clear limits and a hard deadline for its follow up. “This process was more about following my intuition rather than getting in my head and rewriting everything over and over,” he says. Far Caspian Live Dates: 09/19 - Edinburgh, UK - The Speakeasy, Voodoo Rooms 09/21 - Belfast, UK - Ulster Sports Club 09/22 - Dublin, IE - The Workman’s Club 09/24 - Manchester, UK - YES (The Pink Room) 09/26 - Leeds, UK - Brudenell Social Club 09/27 - Nottingham, UK - Bodega Social 09/28 - Bristol, UK - Rough Trade Social 09/30 - London, UK - Islington Assembly Hall 10/07 - Amsterdam, NL - Melkweg 10/09 - Hamburg, DE - Nochtwache 10/10 - Berline, DE - KANTINE AM BERGHAIN 10/12 - Cologne, DE - artheater Köln 10/13 - Brussels, BE - Witloof Bar 10/14 - Paris, FR - Point Éphémère 11/08 - Boston, MA - Deep Cuts 11/09 - Philadelphia, PA - Johnny Brenda’s 11/10 - New York, NY - Le Poisson Rouge 11/11 - Washington DC - Songbyrd 11/13 - Chicago, IL - Subterranean 11/15 - Seattle, WA - Madame Lou’s 11/17 - San Francisco, CA - Popscene @ Rickshaw Stop 11/18 - Los Angeles, CA - Teragram Ballroom Read the full article

TORRES (the project of Mackenzie Scott) will be releasing her new album Silver Tongue on January 31 via Merge Records. The third (and final) single ahead of the release is “Dressing America,” a spanking track that really hits a nostalgic era of indie rock for me. The warm tones of the track with Scott’s vocals give the song an earthiness that makes you just want to nestle in. The soft synths and rhythm remind me of Yo La Tengo’s version of “Gentle Hour” while the vocals and melodies remind me of Frightened Rabbit’s “Keep Yourself Warm”. “Dressing America” is addictingly good and I really can’t stop listening to it.

TORRES - “Gracious Day”
Silver Tongue by TORRES
Silver Tongue Out January 31st on Merge Records
TORRES, the project of New York-based Mackenzie Scott, releases “Gracious Day,” a new single off her forthcoming album, Silver Tongue, out January 31st on Merge Records. In conjunction, she announces a North American tour with more dates to be announced soon. Following lead single “Good Scare,” “Gracious Day” is one of TORRES’ most forthright love songs, and champions “the brilliant, heartbroken optimism she’s able to conjure” (Vulture). Scott’s voice hovers over a starlit landscape in a way that transcends the mundane and enters the otherworldly as she sings, “Gracious day / You moved in like a wave of quiet grace / No surprise / Honey, I’m gonna love you all my life.” "My girlfriend was trying to leave me. I basically wrote this song for her from the valley of the shadow of death, desperate that she might give me another chance - it worked,” says Scott. “I felt like Ebenezer Scrooge after he wakes up on Christmas morning.” Named after those whose words are so potent they cause the people and beings around them to vibrate, Silver Tongue is a full-scale realization of the world Scott has created over TORRES’ last few albums, and the first TORRES record produced solely by Scott. Silver Tongue chronicles the impulses that make up desire—from the dreamy first blushes of infatuation through the slightly terrifying wonder that accompanies connection with another. TORRES’ music has long navigated the space between the physical and the metaphysical, and Silver Tongue faces that conflict head-on, examining the ways in which the actions of others can stir up deep-seated feelings and seemingly alter the space in which one exists. TORRES will play a record release show at The Sultan Room in New York on January 31st. Following dates in Europe in March, she will play shows across North America. Silver Tongue is available for pre-order on CD, LP, and “Saturn’s return” (half silver, half green) Peak Vinyl from Merge Records.

Cold Specks shares hopeful new single Wild Card - listen
Cold Speckssinger has changed her name fromAl Spx to Ladan Hussein. Such evolution also extends into her musical moniker, as heard on her latest single, Wild Card.
Much likeA Season of Doubt from her 2014 album, Neuroplasticity, Wild Card draws inspiration from sociopolitical issues. In this case, the warm, soulful track was prompted by the selflessness of her mother when assisting a Somalian refugee. Despite the heavy topic, there's a hope and lightness to the song which wasn't present on her last record.
I had visited my mother and noticed her frantically phoning people up, Hussein said in a press release. There was a man in my family's store, a new refugee, who had traveled from Somalia to Canada. By water and by foot he had traveled halfway around the world to establish a better life for himself and his family who were still at home. My mother had never met him before. He was a complete stranger from a familiar place. She took him to a local restaurant, fed him and found him somewhere to stay. I was astonished by her selflessness and kept humming 'I'll be there for you. Don't know why.'
Take a listen to Wild Card below.

Portland, OR -- Last year, Black Belt Eagle Scout released her new album At the Party With My Brown Friends via Saddle Creek. If you haven’t given the record a spin yet, today is the day to do it! Yesterday, she released the music video for one of the album’s songs “I Said I Wouldn’t Write This Song.” The track is an excellent encapsulation of Black Belt Eagle Scout’s blend of shredding indie rock and gorgeous songwriting and lyrics.
The music video is directed and edited by Chantal Jung (Inujuk Nunatsiavutimi) and is meant to raise awareness about the Alaskan coastline. The animated video shows the intimate relationship Indigenous people and and animals have with the coastline.

Los Angeles, CA -- Jay Som will be releasing her sophomore album Anak Ko on August 23 via Polyvinyl. Take a listen to the first single from the album titled “Superbike,” a dreamy 4-minute track that’ll bring you back to the summer days of your childhood. The upbeat energy of the track is truly infectious and it really feels like some of the lighter shoegaze music that I love. With “Superbike,” Jay Som really brings together a blend of indie rock, shoegaze, and dream pop into one cohesive and gorgeous track.
